Flu season, clinics under way; shots Friday

Nevada Appeal staff report

This week marks the official start of flu season, Carson City Health and Human Services (HHS) reports, and a series of vaccination clinics begin Friday.

From 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Center, influenza vaccine will be available Friday, according to an HHS news release. The senior center is located at 911 Beverly Dr. and the vaccine clinic reportedly is at the rear entrance. On Thursday, Nov. 5, flu vaccine will be available at Fire Station 52, 2600 College Parkway, from 3-6 p.m. On Tuesday, Nov. 10, vaccines are available at Carson Mall, 1227 S. Carson St., from 3-6 p.m.

“Beginning in October and lasting through May, flu season is the period when flu germs are most likely to be circulating and to make people sick,” HHS said in the release.

Walk-ins for flu shots also are welcome at HHS offices, 900 E. Long St., on Thursdays from 8:30-11:30 a.m. or from 1-4:30 p.m. The HHS release added that walk-ins are welcome in Douglas County, at 1329 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville, on Mondays from 1-4:30 p.m. HHS said flu vaccine rates are affordable.
