The Carson City Chamber is spearheading a special gala to celebrate the grand re-opening of the Bob Boldrick Theater within the Carson City Community Center.

Currently, the lobby is a blank slate, and the planned gala will be a fund-raiser to put in much needed finishing touches to complement the newly-renovated theater interior.

While the theater has had ongoing renovations since first opening in 1974, most of the upgrades have been behind the scenes to enhance production quality. The only truly visible improvement has been the carpet that was laid in 2010. The lobby area remains original. The lobby make-over wish list consists of a number of improvements, including new lighting and black-out curtains.

This regional theater has been well used since it opened. Groups from Reno, Carson Valley, Dayton and Carson City have loved performing in this theater. The Carson City School District is a prime user of the theater for its productions as well as the various theater youth and adult groups including the professional Broadway-style productions produced by the Western Nevada Musical Theater Company.

The fund-raiser is being coordinated by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce and will feature signature canapes donated by local restaurants including The Union, Bella Vita, Red’s Old 395, Gather, and Mangia Tutto. A special musical production sponsored by the Carson City office of Coldwell Banker Select is being planned by Stephanie Arrigotti of Western Nevada Musical Theater Company to be the first production to celebrate the completely renovated theater. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12 with a cocktail reception, followed by a ribbon cutting and then the surprise production.

Open to the public, seating will be limited to 200 persons with revenues to be donated to refurbish the lobby. Black tie is optional and tickets are $50 per person available through the Chamber website at http://www.carsoncitychamber.com/index.php/spotlight/details/theater_gala or by calling 882-1565.
