Gallery features work of local artist
Watercolors will grace the gallery of the Nevada Artists Association this holiday season as it presents the work of Carson City painter Pat Holub.
Holub says one of her goals is to capture a sense of place in her work. Looking at her work, she says, should give someone insight into what makes that place unique.
“I like to paint on location,” she said. “There are feelings that you can’t get from a mental picture.”
Holub is a founding member of the Carson City chapter of the Nevada Artists Association, a group that supports the local arts through donations of money and time.
Her introduction to painting came through experimentation in several different media, she said.
“I drew for awhile and then I finally started painting in 1970,” she said. “I fell in love with it.”
Holub said the paintings that will be featured at the show represent her work over a long period of time.
The association has a 20 percent interest in the Carson City Brewery Arts Center, an arrangement that was struck about 20 years ago when the association pitched in some of the money that created the Brewery Arts Center in 1979.
Holub’s six-week display at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery at 449 W. King Street will begin with a reception Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Her work can be seen up through two weeks into the new year.
She said a goal of the all-volunteer association has been to feature a different artist every six weeks. The gallery is supported through donations of money and time.
“If you show in the gallery, you have to sit in the gallery,” she said.
