Gibbons released from ICU

Nevada Appeal Capitol Bureau

Gov. Jim Gibbons has been moved from the intensive care unit at Renown Regional Medical Center to a regular room, where he continues his recovery.

Gibbons suffered a broken pelvis Tuesday afternoon when a horse threw him at a ranch north of Pyramid Lake.

Surgeons say they successfully repaired the injury and that the governor is expected to make a full recovery.

Spokesman Dan Burns said Gibbons, 65, is still in considerable pain.

No decision has been made on when the governor will be discharged from Renown. Burns said his doctors will make that decision and that Gibbons will follow their advice.

In the meantime, Burns said the governor is conducting state business from his hospital bed with regular briefings from staff on state government issues.

He said the governor will continue to perform his official duties but that his mobility will be very limited while he recuperates.
