GOVERNOR’S ARTS AWARDS NOMINATIONS SOUGHT
The Nevada Arts Council and the Office of the Governor are seeking nominations for the 23rd annual Governor’s Arts Awards.
Initiated in 1979, the awards provide Nevadans with an opportunity to recognize those who add to our present day quality of life while ensuring a strong cultural legacy for future generations.
Nomination packets must be in the Carson City office of the Nevada Arts Council no later than 5 p.m. Sept. 30.
Late nominations or faxed nominations will not be considered. Nominees and nominators must be Nevada residents or organizations/businesses that work in and for the benefit of Nevada.
The Governors Arts Awards recognize outstanding and enduring contributions to Nevada through artistic achievement, commitment and service to the arts.
Up to a total of five awards will be given in the following categories:
— Excellence in the Arts: Artists and arts-producing organizations whose work has made a significant impact in
— Excellence in Folk Arts: Artists or groups carrying on a traditional art form within their cultural heritage.
— Service to the Arts, Organizations & Individuals: Organizations and individuals who have demonstrated a long-term
innovative leadership resulting in significant contributions to the arts in
— Service to the Arts, Businesses and Patrons: Businesses and patrons who, over time, have sustained and enhanced the arts in their community and/or the state through contribution of time, effort or financial resources.
— Arts and Education: Schools, individuals, organizations or businesses that have made significant contributions through leadership and creativity to advance arts education in Nevada’s schools and communities.

The Nevada Arts Council was founded in 1967 as a state agency charged with developing and promoting the arts in Nevada.
The Nevada Arts Council is an agency of the Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs. The Department serves Nevada’s citizens and visitors through cultural and information management, preservation and promotion of cultural
resources, and education.
The Department also includes the Division of Museums and History, State Historic Preservation Office, State Library and Archives, Comstock Historic District Commission, Literacy Coalition, Committee on Participatory Democracy, and the Commission for Cultural Affairs.
