Group cycles for awareness

Nevada Appeal Staff Report

A group of about 60 cyclists with PUSH America, a fraternity dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities, rode into Carson City Thursday.

The Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity members met with children at the Boys and Girls Club around noon to share their message, then did the same over dinner with the Sunset Rotary.

Today, they will be featured during a lunch at the Carson Nugget.

They will conclude their Carson City trip with a presentation from 1:30-3 p.m. at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada.

They will perform a puppet show followed by a demonstration on bicycle safety. Children also will be able to look at the bikes and talk with riders.

PUSH America was founded in 1977 by Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, and members began cycling across the country to benefit people with disabilities in 1988.

The cycling events raise more than $500,000 every summer.

While in Carson City, members are sleeping at Carson Middle School.
