Hearing set for alleged escaped inmate, girlfriend
August 20, 2008
A September hearing has been set for Carson City Jail escapee and the girlfriend who allegedly helped him.
Kyle Carpenter and Jaydra Paoli, both 19, will appear in court on Sept. 2 to determine if there is enough evidence to try the duo in Carpenter’s alleged escape Aug. 16. If convicted, each faces up to six years in prison.
According to the arrest report, Carpenter had just two weeks left on a probation violation relating to a drug charge when he ditched his orange jail trusty jumpsuit, donned clothing found in a shed at the Carson City Animal Shelter where he was assigned, and fled to the Lone Mountain Cemetery.
Using a cell phone brought to him at the direction of Paoli by a man named only as Manuel, Carpenter allegedly summoned Paoli to pick him up.
The report states Paoli then called her mother in Sparks, and Paoli’s mother put the couple up in a Reno motel room. The mother then allegedly helped the two find shelter in an abandoned home near her home in Sparks, and would bring them food and water.
Carson City Sheriff’s Detective Dena Lacy said a warrant for the mother’s arrest is being sought.
