Dayton Valley Golf and Country Club and many of the surrounding homes will be alight with Christmas cheer for Saturday’s second annual Holiday Festival of Lights.

Last year’s event drew more than 500 people according to Debbie Darnell, wedding and events coordinator for the club.

“We just want the community to have some kind of activity to bring them together for the holiday season,” Darnell said.

The event features music from the Dayton High School jazz band, and the Carson Valley Christian-Dayton christmas choir, as well as DJ Party in Motion playing music in between.

Admission to the festival is free, but they ask for donations of kids’ pajamas (fire retardant) to go to the Children’s Cabinet. Last year, more than 100 sets of pajamas were collected.

There will be arts and crafts projects for the children, and Santa will be on hand to pose for photos. There also will be a hayride and caroling around the Legado neighborhood.

A golf cart parade will tour the neighborhood streets, going past some of the homes entered in the holiday lights contest. A bonfire will help keep festival goers warm, along with free coffee and hot chocolate provided by Makin’ Copies. There also will be free homemade cookies for all to partake.

The country club restaurant and bar will be open with a special menu for the evening.

The event runs 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, with events centered around the main clubhouse.
