Jim Weiss spins his tales at Hilltop Church
Award winning storyteller and recording artist Jim Weiss is performing at Hilltop Community Church.
The performance, sponsored by Faith Homeschoolers, begins at 7 p.m. June 18. Doors open at 6 p.m. for an ice cream social.
“To hear Jim tell a story is to become enthralled in the tale. It is no wonder that young children leave the storyteller’s circle determined to recreate the drama in their own creative play,” organizers said. “Jim’s stories encourage children to pursue reading classical literature or hearing it read to them.”
Weiss grew up in Chicago, and attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He and his business partner and wife, Randy, have one married daughter. They currently reside in Charlottesville, Va..
This year, Weiss’ production company, Greathall Productions, is celebrating its 25-year anniversary. Since Greathall’s inception in 1989, Weiss has produced more than 50 recordings and has received 100-plus national awards.
“Weiss has captivated and delighted audiences of children and adults with his original stories and re-tellings from classical literature and history all over the world,” his website states. “Known for his in-person performances of stories from classical literature and history, Jim Weiss can be heard on 50-plus different recordings.”
These recordings will be available for purchase and autographing at the storytelling event.
Earlier in the day, Weiss will be conducting a storytelling workshop at 2:30 p.m. for ages 8 to adult. He will be sharing his secrets of how to craft and deliver a story that will enchant any age audience.
“Storytelling is an effective tool not only for entertainment but in teaching and in bringing both Bible and history lessons to life for the students in your life,” organizers said. “Plan to attend the storytelling workshop to learn how to tell a captivating story yourself.”
Doors will open at 2 p.m. for the workshop.
Advanced tickets are recommended. Tickets for the evening performance are $20 per household or $8 per person. The storytelling workshop costs $25 for the first household member, $20 for each additional household member. If attending the evening performance, each workshop attendee will be given an additional $5 off the workshop price.
