Judge rejects challenge of petition
LAS VEGAS (AP) – A judge in Carson City is letting Harrah’s Entertainment go ahead with a petition to try to build a sports arena on the Las Vegas Strip despite challenges from one of its major competitors.
District Court Judge Todd Russell rejected arguments from MGM Resorts International that the petition is invalid.
Harrah’s is proposing a new law that would tax sales near the proposed 20,000-seat arena and use the funds for a bond to finance the stadium. Harrah’s needs 97,000 signatures to present the issue to state lawmakers.
