Las Vegas sees slightly more visitors in May

LAS VEGAS (AP) – The tourism agency that promotes Las Vegas says the city saw more than

3.2 million visitors in May, a 2 percent increase over the same month a year earlier.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority says it was the ninth straight month that year-over-year visitor numbers increased.

But the visitors authority said Wednesday that gaming revenue for Clark County fell 4.4 percent, to $714.7 million, from

May 2009 to May 2010.

With room inventory increasing by more than 51⁄2 percent to about 148,500 rooms, citywide occupancy fell by 1.8 percent in May. The average daily room rate rose

2 percent, to nearly $99.

Convention attendance was up more than 3 percent, to more than 352,000, despite the number of conventions and meetings held falling by 4 percent.
