Low-cost spay, neuter options available in Carson City

Nevada Appeal staff report

The Nevada Human Society Carson City animal shelter is now offering spay and neuter services for the pets of low-income pet owners.

The veterinary clinic offers low-cost spay and neuter surgery, vaccines and microchipping for the pets of owners who qualify by showing proof they are on Social Security or public assistance.

The clinic services, by appointment only, are spay and neuter surgery for dogs on Monday and Thursday, and for cats on Friday.

Free trap-neuter-return for feral cats is available on Tuesday on a walk-in basis. Cats must arrive in humane traps; loaner traps are available at the shelter for a refundable deposit. Kittens must be a minimum of 3 pounds or 3 months old and all cats and kittens will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and eartipped.

A low-cost vaccine clinic will be held every Friday, starting Aug. 18, from 3 to 5 p.m. for both dogs and cats. No appointment is necessary.

To make an appointment, call the Carson City shelter at 775-887-2171.

The shelter is located at 549 Airport Road.
