Man arrested in false imprisonment, threats

F.T. Norton

An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested for suspicion of false imprisonment after allegedly driving his 15-year-old pregnant girlfriend to the Carson River, refusing to let her leave and threatening to kill her and her unborn baby.

Joseph Arthur Calloway, an unemployed painter, was arrested Sunday evening at 10:20 p.m. at his father’s home after the father called police to say Calloway wanted to turn himself in.

In addition to the false imprisonment charge, a gross misdemeanor, Calloway was also held on suspicion of domestic battery and threats, both misdemeanors.

According to his teenage girlfriend, Calloway allegedly forced her to ride to the Carson River around 6:30 p.m. The girl alleged Calloway was threatening to kill her, their unborn baby and himself.

The victim told police when she began to scream Calloway allegedly punched her in the face blackening her right eye and smashed her head into the center console on the car.

Once they were at the river, the victim said she tried to run from Calloway, but he chased her down and pulled her to the ground by her hair.

After 45 minutes, the victim said she convinced Calloway to take her home after promising to not tell anyone what happened.

Once home, the girl called police and filed charges.

Calloway and the girl live at the home of her parents.

He posted $6,315 bail Monday afternoon.
