A Carson City man suspected of robbing a convenience store was arrested Wednesday after a parole officer recognized him from a store surveillance photo, police said.

Jorge Perez, 28, was being held in the Carson City jail on suspicion of felony robbery with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $40,000.

According to police reports, Perez robbed the 7-Eleven store on North Carson Street about 9:30 p.m. Feb. 26.

The clerk told police the robber played the slot machines for a short time before other customers came into the store and she was distracted, said Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Bob White.

Perez is accused of holding a knife against the clerk’s back and demanding money. When she hesitated, he pushed the knife harder against her, White said.

The clerk then opened the register and the man grabbed about $250 , jumped over the counter and left the store on foot.

White said a flyer with a photograph from the store surveillance camera was sent to area law-enforcement agencies. A parole officer recognized Perez as the man he monitored on a weapons charge.

Perez was arrested on a Lyon County warrant for failure to appear on a drunken-driving charge Tuesday afternoon his apartment in the 700 block of Broadleaf Lane – a block behind the 7-Eleven.

On Wednesday, he was additionally booked on the robbery charge, said White.

“A witness gave a positive identification of Jorge Perez as the individual that committed the robbery,” he said.
