Man pleads not guilty in stabbing outside bar

A June 30 trial date has been set for a Gardnerville man charged with attempted murder in the alleged assault on two men outside of a Carson City bar in February.
Marvin Dressler, 29, pleaded not guilty in Carson City District Court on Tuesday to two counts of battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm, and two counts of attempted murder.
According to police records, Dressler got the attention of the two victims as they sat in a car outside Katie’s Bar on Highway 50 East in February.
The men said when they rolled down their window, Dressler began stabbing the driver. The passenger jumped from the vehicle to pull Dressler off his friend and was stabbed too.
En route to the hospital, both men discovered they’d each been stabbed numerous times in their torso, head, shoulder and back, detectives said.
One of the men suffered a collapsed lung in the assault.
Dressler surrendered to police three days later. He denied using a knife in the fight.
A bail hearing has been set for May 13.
Dressler’s public defender, Marcie Flygare, asked Judge Bill Maddox on Tuesday to reduce Dressler’s bail to $2,500.
She said that since one of the victims failed to show up at the preliminary hearing and the victim that did show up could not clearly remember the events because he was “extremely intoxicated” at the time of the incident, her client was entitled to a bail reduction because the case might not be able to go forward.
Maddox asked Flygare to file a bail motion and told the prosecutor’s office to prepare a response, including Dressler’s criminal history, which includes previous arrests for drug trafficking and assault.
He remains in the Carson City Jail on $50,000 bail.
