Memorial Day events set
Memorial Day is observed in the U.S. in commemoration of those members of the armed forces killed in war.
Formerly observed May 30, it is now It is officially observed on the last Monday in May. It is also called Decoration Day, and is celebrated by the placing of flowers and flag on graves.
According to answers.com, Decoration Day, began in 1868 when members of the Grand Army of the Republic at the request of commander, Gen. John A. Logan, decorated the graves of their fallen compatriots.
It has since become the day on which the United States honors the dead of all its wars and is observed as a legal holiday in most states.
National services are held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington, Va.
