Minor earthquake rumbles near Vegas; no damage

Associated Press

LAS VEGAS ” No damage or injuries are reported after a very minor earthquake was measured in southern Nevada.

The seismology lab at the University of Reno measured the 2.7 magnitude “microearthquake” at 7:10 a.m. Friday nine miles northwest of Nellis Air Force Base and 14 miles north of Las Vegas.

Police in Las Vegas and North Las Vegas reported no calls about the temblor.

North Las Vegas police Officer Tim Bedwell says dispatchers didn’t even know there had been a quake.

Minor earthquakes sometimes occur in southern Nevada, but damage is rare.

The UNR lab reported a magnitude 1.5 microquake just before 6 a.m. Thursday in the same area as Friday’s reported quake.
