Motorcyclist hurt in Edmonds accident
August 14, 2008
A Gardnerville motorcyclist was injured Thursday in a collision with an SUV at Clearview and Edmonds drives.
Brian Ferriera, 46, was southbound on Edmonds Drive when the vehicle in front of him began to make a right turn onto Clearview Drive, said witness James Sandfer of Minden.
A Ford Excursion driven by Melanie Rae Stevens, 39, of Carson City was attempting to make a left turn onto Edmonds Drive from Clearview and pulled out in front of the motorcycle, Sandfer said.
Ferriera applied his brakes, but it was too late. His Harley Davidson slammed into the grill of the Ford.
“The bike went one way and he flew off onto his back and rolled,” said Sandfer.
Ferriera was conscious and talking at the scene, but complained of not having any feeling in his lower extremities.

Sandfer said when he went to see how Ferriera was doing, he noticed there was gasoline on him and he retrieved a towel from his own vehicle to clean the gasoline off Ferriera’s face.
A Care Flight helicopter landed on Edmonds Drive between Clearview and Valley View drives. Ferriera was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center with a possible broken pelvis, said Deputy Jarrod Adams.
Stevens was cited for failing to yield the right-of-way.
Adams said Ferriera does not have a valid motorcycle license, and he will also receive a citation.
