Nevada Appeal at 150: Aug. 2, 1954: Nevada soil for Gettysburg

Gov. Charles H. Russell fills a container with Nevada dirt for shipment to Gettysburg, Pa., site of one of the Civil War’s bloodiest and costliest battles and location of the famous address by President Lincoln. The Nevada soil will be mixed with that from 47 other states, and a memorial pine tree will be planted in commemoration of the United States Arm’s tank corps.
