Nevada Appeal at 150: Dec. 15, 1916: Prohibition and suffrage issues now before Congress
As a sign of the times, the two biggest national issues which confront the people of the United States, prohibition and women’s suffrage, were today formally laid before Congress.
The House Judiciary Committee recommended the passage of the Webb resolution, providing for the submission of a prohibition constitutional amendment to the states. It was voted to lay before the House, without recommendation, the Raker resolution, proposing the Susan B. Anthony suffrage amendment.
This continues the Appeal’s review of news stories and headlines during its Sesquicentennial year.
