Nevada Appeal at 150: Feb. 5, 1954: Carson Theatre holds grand opening

The new $150,000 Carson Theatre will have its grand opening tonight and eager crowds are expected to pack both performances. Built by Sture Svensson, local contractor, the show house embodies the most modern ideas in theatre design, according to Vincent G. Raney, San Francisco architect. Manager A.R .Bowen is especially proud of his CinemaScope wide screen, a babies’ “cry room,” special seats for hard-of-hearing patrons, and complete emergency lighting, sound and safety provisions.

This continues the Appeal’s review of news stories and headlines during its Sesquicentennial year.
