Nevada Appeal at 150: June 28, 1965: Ground-breaking launches new DMV headquarters building

Construction of the Department of Motor Vehicles’s new $750,000 building in Carson City was officially begun yesterday when Gov. Grant Sawyer (second from the left) and Director Louis P. Spitz of the Department of Motor Vehicles (right) turned over the first ground in the ground-breaking ceremony. The chief executive and Spitz receive instruction from William Hancock, chairman of the Nevada State Planning Board; Reno Buonimici of Savini Bros. Construction Company of Reno, project superintendent; and D.A. (Bert) McCuistion, deputy director of the DMV.
