Nevada Appeal at 150: Sept. 25, 1957: Hoffa indicted by federal jury

New York, Sept. 25 — (IP) — James Hoffa, vice president of the Teamsters union, was indicted today on five counts of perjury by a federal rackets grand jury.

The indictment accused the 44-year-old union leader of lying during an investigation of wiretapping.

Hoffa was accused of lying five times during an inquiry into alleged wiretapping involving Detroit Teamsters local 299, of which Hoffa is president.

Benjamin Franklyn Collins, secretary-treasurer of 299, was indicted with Hoffa on 12 counts of perjury.
