Fair goers across the state who are interested in entering the livestock and other competitions at the Nevada Fair may now do so online at nevadafair.com.

The premium book is open for entries in the livestock shows as well as other competitions, including home arts, cooking, homespun items and sewing.

“It’s great,” said Susan Taylor, fair coordinator. “It’s amazing how creative people can be.”

Still in the early stages of planning this year’s Nevada State Fair will be held July 30-Aug. 2 at Fuji Park in Carson City, Taylor said the event is shaping up nicely.

“I think we’re way ahead of where we were last year as far as planning,” she said.

After a brief hiatus, the state fair was brought back last year during the state’s Sesquicentennial celebration. Building on the success of that event, it will return this year.

This year’s feature event will be a Truck Pull at 7 p.m. July 31, put on by MLM Motorsports.

“They’re the best in the business,” Taylor said.

Scott Fahrenbruch, deputy director of the Carson City Parks Department, said beer gardens, with seating available inside tents, are also going to be scattered throughout the park this year.

“People can sit there and listen to the bands,” Fahrenbruch said. “It will be a nice little oasis.”

Shuttle service will once again be provided from the parking garage at the Casino Fandango to the fairgrounds.

“The only reason we’re able to do this is it is a route on our JAC bus system,” explained Patrick Pittenger, Carson City’s transportation manager. “They did a fine job for us last year.”

Other attractions will include a carnival, pig races, circus acts as well as commercial and food vendors.

“We’re really excited for this year’s fair,” Taylor said. “It’s going to be a fun, family friendly event that will have something for everyone of all ages.”

Volunteers are being sought for help with parking and other responsibilities, such as setting up and taking down the exhibit hall. Volunteers are also needed to check in entries and other exhibits and supervising livestock.

Fair organizers are also looking for bands and other performing arts groups to provide entertainment.
