New author visits CHS
Author Heidi Ayarbe recently visited her alma mater to give students a glimpse into the life of a writer.
Students in several English and media classes gathered in the library to hear Ayarbe’s presentation. In addition to her work as a writer, she spoke about growing up in Carson City, her present life in Columbia, and her experiences traveling to over 20 different countries. It was an opportunity for students to see that even a person from Carson City can go on to fulfill their dreams.
Ayarbe gave budding writers food for thought. Successful writers are not always eccentric, she explained, and most are ordinary people who are willing to work hard and practice self-discipline.
Ayarbe also read a passage from her recently published first novel, “Freeze Frame.”
Because of the amount of interest in the book, a raffle was set up for students to be able to check out it out from the library, or to receive an autographed copy. Ayarbe’s visit to Carson High was initiated by the Carson City Library.

In other news, the upcoming national election is on the minds of students. A political forum featuring representatives of both John McCain’s and Barack Obama’s campaigns is being planned by seniors Callie Ward and Rebecca Gansberg. Jessie Sinclair, also a senior, is organizing a mock election in which juniors and seniors will participate. Finally, about 65 students will be getting involved by working the polls on Election Day. It is wonderful to see our students are motivated to become active citizens.
