Nobody asked us, but … Get ready for St. Paddy’s and family fun night

Things are right in the world – Democrat Carlo Poliak has filed again for the U.S. Senate (or Congress or governor or whatever). He never even comes close, but you’ve got to admire him for being persistent. Nice man. Good luck, Carlo … keep trying.

Let’s see … we wrote about Yucca Mountain and nuclear energy last week, and everybody who talked to us about it agreed. Interesting. Now, call your senators and congressman. We have also decided to start the “Lemonade Party,” because it sounds and tastes good. We have ready our flags, God, and signs that say “For the People!” We will stand for fewer taxes, less government (fewer police, firemen, pothole fillers, etc.), and no solutions. Can’t miss … cuz, we’re “for the people!” Yahoo!

There are ads on TV that say they will help you pay only a fraction of what you owe the IRS. Guess who takes up the slack? Us schmucks who actually pay our taxes. To the U.S. Treasury Department … can we only pay a “fraction” of our taxes, too? Just asking.

Our best wishes go out to Norma Conway who is having open heart surgery in San Francisco this week for a leaky valve. Gee, Norma, we could have gotten you a cheaper deal at Les Schwab. Happy Birthdays to the Clinger boys – Andy, the elder, and Dan, the younger. They are brothers, not twins.

The Sertoma Club is holding a great “Family Fun Night of Music” on Saturday, April 10 at the Carson City Senior Center from 6-9:30 p.m. Great music, tri-tip dinner, dancing, prizes, dessert, you name it. It’ll be fun. $25 general; $20 seniors and students. Call John (841-6565) or Frank (885-7579) for tickets or information. If you also would like to be a member, Frank will handle that for you, too. The club serves children in Carson City with speech, hearing, cancer or diabetes health issues, and they would like to see more people get involved.

Carolyn found two cute businesses inside the Carson Mall – Home Treasures and It’s All About Me Fine Clothes. She says they’re both worth giving a “look-see.”

Don’t drink the water. The Environmental Working Group (www.ewg.org) rates water utilities every year in cities with populations over 250,000. Guess who’s in the bottom 10? North Las Vegas, Reno and Las Vegas. Yuck. Carolyn says the people in Washoe Valley told her not to drink the water there either. They say it drives you crazy. Now we know why C is the way she is … oh, no … she only drinks the purified stuff (now we have to look for another reason).

The Maizie Harris Jesse Theatre party was wonderful. Many thanks to everyone who helped with the occasion. M had a splendid time.

The Olympics are over for another two years until summer of 2012. We agree with the writer who didn’t like the way NBC broadcast them from 8 p.m. to midnight (when a lot of people are asleep), and taped, after the fact, so that the “news” of the winners is old hat by the time its on. Sort of like the beach volleyball two years ago, when that was all they showed (we had enough beach volleyball to last us a 100 years). Hardly any “live coverage” of our discus gold medal winner, Stephanie Brown Trafton and others, who were not in bikinis. Pshaw to NBC.

Forewarning: Get your togas and corned beef ready … the Ides and St. Paddy’s are almost upon us.
