NV Energy filing could mean rate drop

RENO (AP) – NV Energy electricity and natural gas customers could catch another break on rates later this year.

The utility on Monday filed its annual deferred energy cost adjustments with the Nevada Public Utilities Commission.

If approved, it would mean average reductions of 10.2 percent for electricity and 4.6 percent for natural gas beginning

Oct. 1.

The typical residential electricity customer in Northern Nevada using 740 kilowatt hours of electricity would pay nearly $9 less a month, while the typical residential natural gas customer using 59 therms of gas would pay about $3 less a month.

In separate adjustments in 2009, NV Energy electricity customers saw an average 11.3 percent reduction in bills and natural gas users a 6 percent decrease.
