NV sales fall nearly 18 percent in September
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) – Taxable sales in Nevada fell 17.7 percent in September, marking the 11th straight month of double-digit declines.
A report issued Tuesday by the state Department of Taxation says merchants sold $3.2 billion in goods during the month. For the first quarter of the fiscal year that began July 1, sales are down 20.3 percent.
The report notes that about $38 million in taxable sales were reported under an amnesty program in September 2008. Excluding that adjustment, September 2009 sales would have decreased 16.9 percent.
Gross revenues collections from sales and use taxes totaled $247.7 million, representing a 12.7 percent decline from the same month last year and a 14.9 percent decrease for the fiscal year.
