It was only a dog bone with a red ribbon, but to Australian shepherd Dogone Rusty Rarebeastie of the Quicksilver Agility Club, it was the key to the city.

Mayor Ray Masayko presented the key to Rusty on Friday afternoon along with a proclamation that July 6 is the official Day of the Dog in Carson City.

Masayko read the proclamation and said he was a big dog lover.

July 6 is also the Northern Nevada Dog Days of Summer at Fuji Park, where Rusty shows his stuff during one of the club’s agility trials.

The Dog Days will feature more than 30 types of dog sports and activities.

In addition to fly ball, agility conformation, sled dogging, obedience, flying disc, there will also be vaccination clinics, pet adoptions and photography.
