Reno mining school: No sooner was the establishment of a mining school at Reno set forth, than a half a dozen state papers began to sneer at the locality. To oppose every project, which some other town may have in view, however, is simply a stupid thing. If a mining school is established in Nevada, it will be an inestimable benefit to the whole state.

Board of insanity: Jailer Pine went to Frank Craven’s cell and found him lying on the floor insensible. He had butted his head against the wall and fractured his skull. Drs. Guilen and Lee examined the poor man and found a fracture of the skull, and so pronounced as to require trepanning.

President Roosevelt chopped relief costs to the lowest level in New Deal history setting a $1,433,000,000 budget for fiscal 1941. He reported that economic depression, starting in 1929, will have cost the nation $29,805,000,000 in extraordinary expenditures by July 1, 1941.

50 YEARS AGO

Soviets attack Christmas spirit: Moscow radio attacked Christmas as an “Imperialist” weapon. The attack came in a long broadcast for listeners in the USSR, three days before the Russian Orthodox church celebrates Christmas by the Russian calendar.

20 YEARS AGO

Mayor Marv Teixeira plans to bring Douglas and Lyon counties into his support to get some attention for the U.S. Highway 395 bypass, which is not scheduled for construction for 15-20 years.

10 YEARS AGO

Permit applications for a project at the Silver City Mall to be submitted to the Carson City Community Develop-ment Department. Rumors have circulated that Lowe’s Home Improvement Hardware would build an Eagle Hardware store at the mall.
