Explanatory. From the fact that the Appeal is obliged to surrender a good deal of its space to the Governor’s message, considerable local and editorial matter has been left over, there being no room for reading matter without an encroachment upon the rights of regular advertisers.

100 YEARS AGO

Married in Empire Jan. 4, 1903, Joseph Walsh of Austin and Miss Kate Kearney of Empire. Bride is one of the favorite daughters of this county who taught six terms. Mr. Walsh is a well-to-do cattleman in Eastern Nevada.

70 YEARS AGO

According to recent reports, the average annual per pupil cost for the state was $134.22. In Ormsby County (Carson City) which has the lowest cost in the state, all the pupils are taught in Carson City schools.

50 YEARS AGO

J.W. Calhoun, Nevada State Museum director, said the museum has been the recipient of a $10,000 contribution from the Max C. Fleischmann Foundation. It will be used to widen the museum’s archaeological research in Nevada and install many new exhibits.

20 YEARS AGO

Damaged wind blown wood from excess trees has been donated to firefighters at Station No. 2 at Airport Road to heat the station, its only heat source. Pictured were Mitch Glazner, Ed Young and Robert Sanders.

Vicki Bovee, longtime Carson City resident and leader for Weight Watchers of Northern Nevada, is now a published contributor to a new Weight Watchers Favorites Homestyle Recipes cookbook, with low fat Ricotta Lemon Cheesecake.
