Carson River. The water at Empire City has remained stationary for the last few days. There is still some back water at the Mexican Mill, but it has not interfered thus far with the crushing of the usual amount of ore.

A new piano has been invented for professional musicians who wish to practice fingering on the instrument without making any noise. The keyboard is there, but there are not strings, and the instrument can be banged away at all day and make no sound. There are several houses in this city that would do well with one of these silent instruments.
100 years ago
School on Circus Day. It has been suggested, and it is a wise suggestion, that there should be no school in Carson on Monday next, when the big animal circus reaches town. With that attraction here it is without the bounds of reason to expect the kids will have their minds on schoolwork.

Pages from the Past compiled by William Dolan. 80 years ago. The fact that mineral bearing lodes exist in all the hills west and north of Carson can no longer be doubted. We yesterday saw one of the finest specimens of gold ore taken from a ledge near here that we have witnessed in years.
