Cock fight. Johnny Moore and some of his friends have had a good deal of exciting fun lately with fighting roosters. They had a turn at this delightful amusement one night this week. According to deliberate opinion a war scarred veteran of the cock pit had a rattlin’ good fight out of a couple of game “stags.”

130 years ago

(Comstock journalism, continued from Friday). The Chronicle staff then holds a cabinet meeting and says:

The Enterprise, this morning, in referring to the industrious and honest bakers of this city, says: “The dirty loafers known we have been their friend.”

Alluding to bakers as “dirty loafers” is what might be expected from a sheet whose only humorist had resigned in disgust long ago to make room for a man who escaped from a lunatic asylum and has never been recaptured.

100 years ago

In a local butcher shop a crowd of several men was discussing soil qualities in different parts of Nevada. “Out my way,” said one who was from Minden, “pumpkins grow so big that mothers use half of one to cradle their babies in.” “That’s nothing,” said another. “In Reno I know of two policemen who sleep on a beat.” That settled it.

Mr. and Mrs. Pete Kelley moved to Carson City Saturday from Eureka and Fallon and Kelley will have charge of the local news desk at the Appeal.

Carson City High School Senator basketball team journeys to Elko tomorrow to pen the 1965-66 season in a pair of non-conference tilts. Coach John Borda has been putting his squad through both offense and defense routines.

Douglas County Manager Bob Hadfield will leave his post Dec. 31 for his new job as executive director of the Nevada Association of Counties.
