Favors. Mr. Fox of the news depot brought some late Eastern papers and copies of Godey’s and Peterson’s Lady’s book and will give them to the prettiest gal who will call and ask for them. Mr. Fox has a large assortment of interesting books and periodicals.

Local notes. The Fourth of July at Genoa promises to be a regular corker, and Glenbrook is making great preparations for a big blow-out on the Fourth.

110 Years Ago

Reno wins. Reno and Garden City Wheelmen had a fierce race. It looked as though the Nevada boys were going to suffer defeat. The Garden City boys opened a gap, which took an old Carson wheelman to close. McKenzie went out after his man and in a wonderful burst of speed landed in the finish.

70 Years Ago

Children visit Reno rodeo. Forty-one youngsters from the Children’s Home, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Van der Smissen, superintendent and matron of the Home, and Mrs. Lily Stock, Miss Grace Lundholm and Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Young, were guests of the Reno Junior Chamber of Commerce at the Reno Rodeo.

Free wetlands. The Nature Conservancy offered to give the Carson City’s Open Space Committee more than 17 acres of wetlands. The Conservancy tries to preserve animals and their natural habitat by buying the land and water for different species need to survive. The land is located between Lompa Lane and the proposed freeway right of way, south of Shaheen Business Park on Goni Road.
