Whipping Children: The Appeal has received several letters from parents complaining of a certain lady teacher … that oversteps the bounds and punishes severely on too slight provocation. It is not in the province of a newspaper to meddle with the matter. The parents whose children need the most whipping are the ones most anxious to make a fuss about it.

Everett Curless: takes scoring honors during Carson City high school basketball and outscored the highly-favored Reno team, 32 to 31. The victory gave the Carson school its fifth championship title in five years with the chance at the 1940 state title … (Everett Curless was raised in the Nevada Children’s Home).
