Photo album a piece of history

Within 84 days this century will be a memory.

What better way to remember this period of Carson City’s history than with a photo album.

The Nevada Appeal’s second pictorial history book, “Carson City: A Century of Memories,” is in stock and waiting to be picked up.

The 128-page, hard-cover book includes more than 300 photographs from 1900 through much of 1999.

A Century of Memories follows on the heels of “Carson City, The Early Years.” Volume I was published about two years ago and about 3,000 books were sold.

Volume II was a slightly different project than Volume I, Appeal publisher Jeff Ackerman said.

The Appeal partnered with the Nevada State Museum for Volume I, borrowing almost every photo for the book from museum collections. Volume II was a partnership with the community.

“We asked for photographs from the public for this one,” Ackerman said. “We were fortunate to run into a couple of people who had some really great photographs, never before published. These were photos up in attics, stored in boxes. These people were willing to share their precious photos with us and now everybody can enjoy them.”

Photos come from people with strong community ties such as Nancy Bowers, Ron McNutt and Herbert Sarnowski. The Appeal, Nevada State Museum and Nevada State Railroad Museum also contributed photos.

The new book will be on sale for $29.95 until Nov. 1. After Nov. 1 the books will cost $39.95 each. The two-volume set is on sale for $54.95. Call the Appeal at 881-2111 or stop by 200 Bath Street for information.
