Plastic division plans 40 jobs in Minden
VIP Rubber and Plastic will move a plastic division to a recently-purchased building near Johnson Lane in Douglas County, the Northern Nevada Development Authority said Thursday.
The authority (NNDA) announced in a news release the firm was moving a recently-acquired plastic division from Ontario, Calif., and planned to create 40 jobs in the new, Northern Nevada location.
“VIP Rubber and Plastic will make an excellent addition to our manufacturing community in Northern Nevada,” said Rob Hooper, NNDA executive director. He called the jobs involved “a good example of the high paying primary jobs we need to grow our economy.”
Founded in 1961, the California rubber and plastics firm is family owned and operated, according to NNDA, and its main manufacturing facility is in La Habra, Calif. The plant there will be unaffected by the division move.
“We could have located anywhere,” said Howard Vipperman, VIP president and chief executive officer, “but Nevada has the best, most business friendly environment of all the places we looked at.”
The Carson City-based development authority began working with VIP in 2010 in conjunction with NV Energy’s economic development team, according to the NNDA news release.
