Portion of Roop will close for road work
Roop Street commuters will be diverted around a half-mile section between Winnie Lane and Hot Springs Road on Tuesday and Wednesday for road work.
City work crews are cleaning out and sealing cracks on the roadway with a rubber compound, said Curtis Horton, Carson City public works deputy operations manager.
From 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, northbound drivers must detour on Winnie Lane, take North Carson Street and hook back up to Roop using Hot Springs Road. Southbound drivers can avoid the delay by diverting to South Carson Street and then taking a left at Winnie Lane to hit Roop.
The rubber compound sealing is one step in a process that prevents potholes from forming in streets.
“Healing cracks is one of the more important things you can do to prevent potholes from popping up everywhere,” Horton said.
A slurry of oil-based sand mixture will then be put on top of asphalt to seal the surface, preventing water from seeping into the road and creating a pothole.
This road work is part of a eight-year program to fix cracks in all city streets.
