President Obama arrives in Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) – President Barack Obama is in Las Vegas to talk about his efforts to strengthen the economy and to boost U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s re-election efforts.

Air Force One touched down at McCarran International Airport about 4:15 p.m. Thursday.

KLAS-TV reports the president was greeted briefly on the tarmac by Democratic Congresswomen Shelley Berkley and Dina Titus, state Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and Secretary of State Ross Miller.

Reid is hosting the president during a campaign rally at the Aria Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

The senator faces a tough challenge from GOP nominee Sharron Angle in his bid for a fifth term.

Today, Obama is to speak at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, about the economy.
