Purple bows to serve as reminder of domestic violence

Staff Report

Advocates to End Domestic Violence kicked off Domestic Violence Awareness Month by hanging purple bows on the fence of the Capitol and trees in the center median of Carson Street on Sunday.

Each bow will serve as a visual reminder of the significance of the month.

In addition, every Saturday during the month of October, Advocates will “Paper the Town.”

Purple ribbons along with information about domestic violence will be handed to the local community at various sites. Carson City Art Initiative with Carson City Library will exhibit a display to recall local incidences of domestic violence tragedies.

Advocates will also kick off “Fill a Can, Feed a Family” CANpaign. Large cans, resembling a Campbell’s soup can, will be placed in businesses throughout Carson City from October through December.

These cans will be for cash donations. Last year’s CANpaign raised more than $3,000 for use at the shelter.
