Rain expected to continue through weekend
More rain is expected to wash us into next week following the fifth of an inch that fell on Carson City on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service in Reno said a low pressure system off the California coast brings with it a good chance of showers and thunderstorms through Sunday and possibly into Monday.
Today there’s a 50 percent chance showers and thunderstorms are likely after 11 a.m. It will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 70 degrees and a low around 50.
Thursday calls for a 30 percent chance of precipitation with a high of 66 and a low around 48.
On Friday there’s a 60 percent chance of rain with a high near 61 and a low around 45.
A slight chance of rain is also forecast for Saturday, Sunday and Monday with temperatures slowly increasing into the 70s.
By next Tuesday, forecasters predict the weather will be mostly sunny with a high near 78.
Hydrologist Gary Barbato with the National Weather Service said, though the rain hasn’t done much to touch the drought, what is nice about this rainfall is the low temperatures.
“The cooler weather prevents evaporation. Cells aren’t drying up as fast so in that respect, you are getting more runoff than you otherwise would,” he said.
