Reid-Coverdell bill aimed at drug lords signed
WASHINGTON – Legislation by Democratic Sens. Harry Reid of Nevada and Diane Feinstein of California and Republican Sen. Paul Coverdell of Georgia aimed at international druglords has been signed into law.
Sen. Reid said the bill “will give the United States the leverage to isolate drug traffickers without affecting our economic relationship with foreign trading partners such as Mexico.”
“The ability to freeze assets and block business dealings is one of our most effective weapons against Colombian cartels and other drug kingpins,” he said.
The legislation passed Congress with strong bipartisan support.
Reid said the idea is the target drug cartels and their assets directly instead of sanctioning entire nations.
