Rescue chopper lands on freeway after accident
A Carson City woman was injured Wednesday afternoon when she slammed into a concrete wall on the new portion of the Carson City freeway.
Witness Eric Masto said he was behind the Honda as it was southbound on the freeway just south of the Highway 50 on-ramp, when the driver drifted into the left gravel shoulder.
Masto said she overcorrected and careened across the lanes into the barrier on the right.
When he got to her she was awake but stunned.
“I think she was OK. The air bags saved her,” he said.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Brad Smith said the driver, an 82-year-old woman, was conscious and talking with rescuers. She was taken from the scene by a Care Flight helicopter that landed on the freeway, stopping traffic for about 20 minutes.
Her injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
