RSVP seeking auction items for annual Dayton Valley Days festival Sept. 17-18

Nevada Appeal staff report

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program, now in its third year of organizing the silent auction at Dayton Valley Days, is hoping to make this year’s auction the best in the festival’s 28-year history.

Kathy Bray, Lyon County field representative for RSVP, is reaching out for donations of anything of value, large or small, to auction off at this year’s event on Sept. 17-18.

Donations are tax-deductible and are welcomed from businesses, organizations and individuals.

The silent auction not only will raise funds to further RSVP’s efforts to help area senior citizens, but it also will help fund the ongoing preservation of Dayton’s historic community center.

RSVP helps frail, home-bound, and low-income seniors remain independent and stay in their homes. It coordinates a volunteer network of seniors who use their skills and talents to provide support to community agencies and address community needs through service.

The two-day street festival in Old Town Dayton features events throughout each day, including a pancake breakfast each morning, live entertainment, Railroad Days at the historic Carson & Colorado Depot, tours of the historic firehouse/jail and Dayton Museum, a free Kids Zone offering games and activities for area youth, a nationally-sanctioned chili cook-off, an outdoor craft fair, Saturday’s Hometown Parade, the Gold Creek Show n’ Shine for classic cars and trucks, Sunday’s Pet Parade, the silent auction and more.

This year’s theme is, “Recognizing Our First Responders, Our Local Heroes.”

To make a donation to the silent auction, call Bray at 775-443-5248 or Dayton Valley Days at 775-301-9567.
