Scout seeks help in cleaning Linear Ditch
Aaron Woodbury, a
13-year-old seventh-grader at Eagle Valley Middle School, is looking for the community’s help to complete his Eagle Scout project.
He will be restoring the Linear Ditch, which runs along Governors Field and Fremont Elementary School.
Woodbury has been working with the Carson City Public Works and Parks and Recreation departments to organize the project. Volunteers with waders are needed.
“On this project, we will be accomplishing many things such as picking up trash, clearing dead plant life, stopping erosion with rocks, clearing water inlets and outlets, and possibly removing dead and unwanted trees along with rodents that contribute to erosion,” Woodbury wrote in his project summary. “This project will be a benefit to Carson City, its residents and also a lot of the wildlife found in the area.”
Volunteers are asked to bring waterproof boots if they have them. All other supplies will be provided, as will lunch.
The project will run 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. Participants should meet at Fremont Elementary School, 1511 Firebox Road.
