Season of golf, baseball and an Easter Egg hunt

Kim Riggs
For the Appeal

Spring is officially here, and that means baseball has started, Easter is around the corner and the golf fundraiser will be on the way. One of my favorite politicians and former co-worker Nevada Assemblywoman Bonnie Parnell is teaming up with another hometown hero Nevada Sen. Mark Amodei helping raise funds for a cause I can’t support enough – continued education.

Join Bonnie, Mark and the Northern Nevada Development Authority (NNDA) for the second annual Golf-A-Thon FUNdraiser on June 15 at the Dayton Valley Golf Course. A planning meeting will be held Friday.

The GOLF-A-THON allows players to play 100 hole s of golf in one day, while raising money for a Western Nevada Community College scholarship program.

If you know these two, you know that FUN is the operative word here, and what an outstanding way to help make educational dreams come true.

Here’s a hair-raising idea to help the Carson High School baseball team with a local salon.

Attitudes Salon owner, Brandi Plattsmeir, and Linda Valerius have decided donate one day’s worth of proceeds to the boys baseball team.

This is no April’s Fool’s joke – on April 1 you can get a haircut and leave looking good and help youth athletics. Great deal!

This fundraiser is a home run, so please take a moment to support the team and get clipped from some great stylists. There will also be a raffle with the grand prize of a $300 salt-water aquarium.

They are looking for a few more ladies and gentlemen to donate their time cutting hair, so if you’re interested in helping call Brandi.

The Governor’s Field Easter Egg Hunt is a local tradition, and this year they need some donations to pull off the fun-filled day of excitement and wonder for the little ones.

It will consist of two Easter Egg Hunts. The Easter Egg Hunt designed for special-needs children starts at 11 a.m. and allows children who need a little assistance the time and space to get in the hunt. The official hunt will begin at 1 p.m.

Carson City Kiwanis could use some more donations: bicycles, coloring books, pizza certificates, anything a child would like to win. So if you can help, call Jim Hamtak, or you can send a monetary donation to help purchase prizes for the specially marked eggs.
