Six-Mile Canyon fire at 185 acres

Staff Reports

The Six-Mile Canyon fire was at 185-acres Saturday night.

The fire is burning in brush, grass and pinion-juniper on steep slopes along the road between Virginia City and Dayton Valley.

The fire started 11:04 a.m. Friday, according to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch. No structures are currently threatened, according to Sierra Front.

“The fire is in unified Command between Storey County and the BLM,” according to an update issued Saturday morning. “Ground units are constructing hand line, re-enforcing perimeter control, and are actively engaged in mopping up.”

About 150 firefighters are working on the blaze, mostly in four 20-person handcrews. There are also four air tankers, two helicopters, 18 engines, four water tenders and a bulldozer.

The Saturday afternoon lightning storm caused several other small lightning-ignited fires but all fires were under control.
