Solar Summit at Fallon this week

by staff

The potential for Nevada’s future as a nationwide leader in the growth of solar will be discussed during the Northern Nevada Solar Technology Summit, hosted by the Corporation for Solar Technology and Renewable Resources Tuesday and Wednesday in Fallon.

The free two-day educational seminar, where businesses, the building industry, utilities and elected officials can gather information and exchange ideas concerning the application and benefits of solar technology will be at the Churchill County Museum and Archives in Fallon. A VIP reception will be held the evening of Nov. 16 at the Fairways Golf Course in Fallon.

“The utility industry’s pending deregulation will offer customers more choices for their energy needs,” said Rose McKinney-James, president and CEO of CSTRR. “The acceptance of renewable resources, especially solar energy technology, has grown tremendously, making Nevada a key state for this industry.”

Tom Starrs, a nationally known consultant on the design, analysis and implementation of renewable resources, will serve as the keynote speaker at the Summit’s luncheon on Wednesday. Starrs is a principal in the energy and environmental consultant firm of Kelso Starrs and Associates LLC, which is based on Vashon Island, Wash.

Starrs, an expert on legal and regulatory matters concerning solar and wind energy, has spoken before state legislative committees, public utility commissions and state energy offices in more than a dozen states.

Panel discussions during the summer will include sessions on marketing solar, overcoming barriers, design and technology, government regulations and renewable energy’s cost effectiveness.
