South Lake Tahoe man killed in avalanche
LAKE TAHOE ” A South Lake Tahoe man, who was reported missing on Sunday in the Maggie’s Peak area near Emerald Bay, has been found dead after an apparent avalanche, authorities confirmed Monday.
Christopher Trethaway, 39, was located after searchers found clothing and equipment in a fresh avalanche just west of Cascade Lake.
Search teams were deployed Sunday night to look for Trethaway, who had gone backcountry skiing on Saturday and had not returned, said Les Lovell of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office. Additional resources were committed to the area, and with the help of a search dog the remains of Trethaway were located, Lovell said.
While every indication pointed to Trethaway being alone and the time of the event, the entire area of the avalanche was searched. No other persons were located, Lovell said.
