Tech event slated for EVMS robotics team

Nevada Appeal staff report

Eagle Valley Middle School’s annual STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Night is benefitting the school’s FIRST LEGO robotics team, competing at the World Festival in Houston, Tex. in April.

“The Jedi Engineers” won in the Northern Nevada FLL Championship earlier this month, which qualifies them to compete in the Word Festival. The team also received an offer to compete in Bath, United Kingdom, for International Invitational Championships in the summer.

Donations made at the event will go towards travel expenses for the team to compete in Houston. The team is the first in the region to compete at a prestigious level in the FIRST program.

The interactive, hands-on family event showcases student projects on how STEAM elements are used in the community and schools. Raffle ticket prices are $1 each, featuring a variety of prizes from local vendors.

The STEAM event is Thursday 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at EVMS.
